Course Objectives:
• Understand the Concept of Maritime Human Resources: Explain the meaning of maritime human resources, the concept of crew and manning a vessel, and the structure of the world maritime labor market.
• Analyze Maritime Human Resource Management Systems: Analyze the system and fundamental processes of managing maritime human resources and integrate theoretical perspectives on ways to build bridges between people from diverse cultures.
• Evaluate Strategies for Managing Maritime Human Resources: Compare and evaluate strategies for managing maritime human resources, both onboard and ashore, placing emphasis on ethical behavior.
Course Content:
• Introduction to Shipping: Overview of the shipping industry and its dynamics.
• Management Principles: Functions of management, organizational behaviors, and human resource management principles, policies, procedures, and systems.
• Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility: Importance of ethics and corporate social responsibility in the maritime industry.
• Leadership Concepts and Applications: Leadership concepts and their applications in the maritime industry.
• Crew Department Structure and Operations: Structure and daily operations of the crew department in a shipping company.
• Cooperation with Other Departments: Cooperation between the crew department and other departments within a shipping company.
• Variable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs): Presentation and analysis of different types of CBAs, including their advantages and disadvantages.
• Recruitment, Retention, Promotion, Evaluation, and Training: Major aspects related to seafarers, including documentation, recruitment, retention, promotion, evaluation, and training.
• Collaboration with Manning Agencies: Collaboration of ship management companies with manning agencies or their own manning branches abroad.
• Self-Development and Personnel Management: Importance of self-development and personnel management in the maritime industry.
METHODOLOGY
